Hello From Virginia

Post by AllanCavendish »

Hi all,

I first stumbled upon City Tutoring and Alfred Cromwell with his famous video "You Don't Need a Job. You Need A Life Worth Living!" What a great introduction to Mr. Cromwell. Topical, Wise, Passionate, Well-spoken, and from a Christian Perspective. I've caught all of his videos since then.

I spend most of my days Monday through Friday working as a Product Designer, which for those of you who don't know is derivative of architecture, applying practices and thought from the later to consumer goods. My college education had a greater focus on design skills and theory rather than technical application, more concept generation and model making. However, my professional career has granted me a lot of insight into production. Not just having an idea or a concept, but making it real. Getting past the prototype stage and into full scale production. Admittedly, I have some philosophical qualms about my profession and the way that many companies in America try to industrialize creativity, but I do enjoy what I do and advocate for my beliefs in my company where I can.

I grew up attending a Non-Denominational church with my family. It was a good community and where I joined the Boy Scouts (it was great in my time, but for those of you with sons, I would look into Trail Life. For them, faith is still first). Near the end of my time at college as I grew more interested in history, philosophy, and politics, I subsequently started learning more about church history. I am still in the process of discerning through scripture what denomination to join, although I imagine I will more than likely find myself a Baptist.

I look forward to discussing with you all!
