Guys in suits

Was just curious, given that City Tutoring is so strict about so many things, is it really necessary for guys to wear suits/ties in the 21st century? I'm pretty traditional, but I don't think wearing traditional clothes should be a requirement to have traditional or Christian ideas.

What do you all think about this? Like, for example to go to church, is it absolutely necessary to wear a full suit?

I’d say what one wears to Church can very comfortably be dictated by the local culture the Church is located in. I believe that wearing a full suit in Church originates from the British tradition, which is why many traditional Churches in America often see their congregations wearing more formal clothing. If you go to the Philippines and many other countries in the Southern Hemisphere, shorts and short sleeve shirts are very common due to the climate as well as less “formal” materials like linen.

Thanks for responding, ZoomerMC. I feel that's basically right. What counts as "dressing respectfully" has always been influenced by local culture, climate, and social norms. A suit may have been the standard expression of respectability in certain times and places, but that doesn't necessarily make it a timeless Christian requirement. Unfortunately though, I have come across people who do say that if you for example wear shorts to church, that you are a bad person, for real. And me personally, I don't think we should confuse upper or middle class fashions with going to church.

In fact, there can be something healthy about churches being places where ordinary working people feel comfortable walking in as they are, without feeling pressure to adopt a particular social uniform. If you're in the South, it's brutal to wear a suit this time of year.

I don't go to church, so can't speak about church dress codes, but I do find the idea of wearing a suit to be overkill for most guys. I can definitely get why someone with a certain position/authority will wear one, but for example at my college there is 1 guy who always wears a suit even to go to class, and it's not for work or anything. We can tell he wears it to try to feel above others. He's the same guy who then posted on the school subreddit that people are unfriendly to him lol.

Also, if anything you'd wear a suit to a formal occasion or to respect something, but sorry to say I feel the majority of our professors today do not really deserve any respect.

It is certainly not necessary. But maybe it should be. Too many people go out in public in their pajamas today. I don't think it is too much to ask to put on slacks and a shirt at minimum.

But why should you care about what a random stranger is wearing??
