Donald Trump’s administration is proposing sweeping new restrictions on work permits for certain immigrants in an attempt to discourage people from coming to the country, escalating the president’s threats to legal immigration.

The new proposal would restrict work permits to people granted humanitarian protections to legally stay in the U.S., including DACA recipients and people who don’t qualify for asylum but cannot be sent back to their home countries.

It would also effectively ban work authorization for anyone who has been arrested, even if they were never charged with a crime. Immigrants accused of being in a gang, which could rely on a broad range of criteria without a conviction, could also be denied work permits.

The proposal would also limit permits to just one year, with stricter conditions on renewal and possible automatic termination.

All applicants would also be required to submit to biometrics screenings for identity verification and criminal background checks.

Applicants also would need to work for an employer that uses E-Verify, a voluntary government program that determines employees’ eligibility to work in the U.S. The White House is separately proposing that all federal grant recipients enroll in the program, the biggest effort to implement the program in decades.

The proposal is carving exceptions into an immigrant friendly legal system. I don't expect much change at all. The states will see more immigration and more enclaves forming in cities and suburbs.

Whether immigration is legal or illegal doesn't really matter. Both groups retain their national identity, thus altering the character of this country by adding or expanding alien cultures. Both groups suppress wages by increasing the supply of labor. Both groups will demand representation from politicians that share their ethnicity.

If politicians actually worked at the behest of voters, they'd stop all immigration.

I notice this so much with Indians and Asians. With the latinos, I find them similar to blacks in the sense that they create ghetto areas that are unsafe, so that's also a huge challenge. But Indians and Asians are way more of a threat to our wages than the other groups.

It's always critical to think about the highest level of causation. Stopping short of that leads to error (and nearly everyone stops short of that).

So we must primarily consider what God may have at work. Also of note are the devil's possible motivations.

I submit that an essential step before judgement is for the sins of the wicked to reach a very high level. With the LGBTQ and abortions I think many achieved that.

Now is the time for the other side the attain their height of wickedness and this hatred of immigrants (many of whom are Christian) is a large part of that. Of course the love of zionism, support of war, idolization of Trump, etc. all pour into that cup.

Where I live in Texas (the Austin metro), Indians are slowly taking over. So yeah, they're not working the same jobs as Latinos or Blacks, but they also don't stop jabbering in Hindi or whatever language they speak back home. Honestly, it's just incredibly disrespectful to be speaking a foreign language in public.

I don't mind the East Asians that much, but the Indians are on another level. They drive Teslas with the silly student driver bumper sticker, as if that'll excuse they're driving. They stock their convenience stores by buying in bulk at Costco, then markup their prices. My landlord is Indian, and the way he treated the man who repaired the garage door... it was embarrassing. In groups of 6 or more, you're guaranteed to find a smelly one. And the cherry on top is all the lying and nepotism.

I work for a relatively unknown, but publicly traded tech company. More than half of engineering is Indian and they manage to screw up everything they touch. Of course it's never their fault and my inbox is regularly full with "please welcome Vihaan to XYZ org...".

Last year the managers of this company, who all have a sales background and believe you can just "manifest" profits, listened to the consultants and opened an office in Hyperabad. My team now has to work with these cretins, that likely purchased their degrees online.

There is a silver lining in that the company is being acquired. I can only hope the new leadership isn't as foolish as the old leadership.

And geoffrey: these "immigrants" that you suspect of being Christian built a giant statue of their monkey god just outside of Houston. If division is the work of the devil, then he must be the one that sent them here.

It wasn't clear to me which group you were talking about. There are actually a few Christian Indians, and yes, many Latinos are culturally Christian. Just the same, the Latinos don't immigrate into American culture, create enclaves, and suppress wages. I may not directly compete with them for a job, but wages for unskilled and blue collar labor would be higher if they didn't come here; and if those wages increased, so would the wages of white collar workers. I mean, who would work in the office if you could make more money building homes or fixing roofs. I know I'd be out there, and I'm not exactly young anymore.

Also I don't hate you geoffrey. We can disagree about things. I just get a little passionate about a few subjects and immigration is one of them.

Looking at the string of events bringing us here is interesting. Latin America was deliberately kept down then propaganda, NGOs, and cartels were employed to bring the people here for the destruction of the people in both places. The immigrants siphoned their family's savings off to the cartels so they're even poorer there and the wealthy class uses them to undermine the wages in the US and both sides grow in hatred for each other. It's cold, calculated, and utterly diabolical.

H1Bs are a less intricate thing, basically a direct undermining of the technical class. Of course they have no trouble finding work.
