City Tutoring Discussion Forum

Hey all,

I'm in my twenties and in college, but not a math person at all. I listen to Cromwell for his other videos on life and admire his amazing speaking abilities. I came to know about him through a friend of mine who had him for math and told me how tough he is.

Most of my time goes toward training, work, and figuring out how to become more effective in the real world. I don't put much faith in institutions, credentials, or experts simply because they're experts. I think a lot of modern education teaches people how to memorize information but not how to navigate life.

My interests are entrepreneurship, fitness, psychology, and understanding how people actually behave rather than how they claim to behave. I'm less interested in theories and more interested in what produces results.

Another reason I joined is that most online discussion feels detached from reality. People talk endlessly about politics, culture, and abstract ideals, but very few seem interested in practical day to day stuff that we deal with, or at least especially that guys have to deal with.

I don't know where I'll end up agreeing or disagreeing with people here, but I enjoy direct conversation.

What's up Justin! I love fitness too. I mix calisthenics + weight training. I'll let you in a secret to psychology. Or at least an aspect of it... It's really about how we justify things. But we must directly experience it ourselves to kinda understand the process of justification. We need "ideals"/ standards to be able to know whether or not our justification about anything are up to standards or not. Why do we need to know that? Well I'll probably talk more about it later on this Forum!

You say you are not a math person... but what if you already are thinking like one, but you simply don't recognize it in the algebraic-symbols form?

Good to see another guy who's into fitness. I've always thought the ideal setup is some combination of weights and bodyweight training/strength training. Being strong is great, but I also want to be able to move well.

As for math, maybe I don't give myself enough credit, but also not sure what you mean?

If you can reason, then you can do math. All you have to do now is reason about numbers/symbols to get the algebra going.
