As the title says, I want to be wealthy, but let me be specific.

There's two kinds of wealth. There's natural wealth, where one has the actual physical assets to meet basics needs. Off-grid-homes, rain water collection systems, gardens, and chicken coops (with chickens) are all examples of assets that would make someone wealthy in this way. The other kind of wealth is artificial wealth. Stocks, bonds, crypto-currency, currency in general are all examples of artificial wealth.

With these examples, I can now clarify that I desire natural wealth.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a greedy person. I have no want of anything in excess of that which would provide for the foreseeable future.

Also, I don't think natural wealth would make me happy. I just prefer it to the default arrangement of working a W-2 job for a corporation that prioritizes short-term profit and stakeholders over the needs of the employees, customers and everyone else impacted by its decisions.

I can't be the only one who thinks this way. Let me know if you agree (or disagree) along with any considerations I may have not thought of.

I get where you're coming from, but I think you're dismissing financial wealth too quickly.

An off-grid home, gardens, and chickens all cost money to acquire and maintain. Financial wealth is what gives you the leverage to build the life you're describing in the first place.

If your goal is to become more independent, I'd focus on maximizing your income while you're still working if possible. Negotiate aggressively for raises, switch employers if another company will pay significantly more, and invest the difference. Your employer is trying to get as much value from your labor as possible, so it's reasonable for you to try to maximize the value you receive in return.

To me, money is leverage. It gives you more choices, more bargaining power, and more control over your future. Once you have enough capital, you can buy land, build an off-grid home, install solar, drill a well, or whatever else you want if that's your true preference. Without that capital, those goals are much harder to reach. I agree though about W2 jobs, which is why Im more of a hustler. I prefer doing odd jobs that will pay enough to get by plus maybe allow some savings rather than being constantly employed. Ive done painting, gardening, and even like some home repairs and that actually gets you ok money if youve got good contacts.

I want lots of money and a house with lots of land.
